Indonesia job market report: October 2026

6 min readUpdated 12 October 2026

On 12 October 2026 JobStreet Indonesia listed 58,654 open jobs. We counted them by city and by role, and read the 500 most recent postings in full to see what they offer: the type of contract, where the work happens, and what they pay. This is what the numbers say, and what they mean if you are looking for work right now.

The short version

  • Greater Jakarta is where most of the jobs are. A search for Jakarta alone returns 18,009 postings, 31% of everything listed.
  • Sales, marketing, admin and customer service each match more than 18,000 postings. Software engineering matches 1,324.
  • More than 1 in 4 postings mentions fresh graduates (16,524).
  • Less than half of new postings show a salary: 236 of the 500 newest.
  • Where a salary is shown, the middle of the range is Rp 5.36 million a month. Half of them fall between Rp 3.86 million and Rp 7.44 million.
  • Remote work is rare. Only 1.2% of postings match a search for remote, and among the newest, 4 of 500 were remote and 6 were hybrid.

Where the jobs are

Jakarta leads by a wide margin. Searches for Tangerang, Bekasi and Bogor return between 17,000 and 21,000 postings each, because the board includes the surrounding area, so treat Jabodetabek as one market rather than four. Outside it, the largest markets are:

  • Bali: 5,101
  • Surabaya: 4,480
  • Bandung: 2,524
  • Yogyakarta: 1,930
  • Semarang: 1,917
  • Medan: 1,201
  • Batam: 929
  • Makassar: 685

If you are open to moving, or to a job that is not in the capital, Bali and Surabaya together hold more postings than the next six cities combined.

Which roles are hiring

Postings matching a search for each role. A posting can match more than one search, so these overlap and do not add up to the total.

  • Sales: 23,844
  • Marketing: 22,987
  • Admin: 18,879
  • Customer service: 18,403
  • Finance: 10,541
  • Engineer (all kinds): 9,730
  • Business development: 7,527
  • Accounting: 7,482
  • Digital marketing: 6,301
  • Warehouse: 4,966
  • Driver: 3,777
  • HR: 3,233
  • Quality control: 3,229
  • Graphic designer: 2,582
  • Data analyst: 1,900
  • Software engineer: 1,324
  • Product manager: 1,192

Commercial and operational roles dominate. Technology roles are a small slice of the market, so a tech job search usually needs more applications per offer, and a sharper CV for each one.

Fresh graduates and internships

A search for fresh graduate matches 16,524 postings, 28% of the market. Internships are fewer: 1,354 postings match internship and 1,910 match magang. If you are just out of university, entry-level roles in sales, admin, customer service and finance are where the volume is.

What new postings look like

We read the 500 most recent postings, all published over about two hours on the afternoon of 12 October 2026, Jakarta time.

  • Contract: 74% full time, 23% contract or temporary, about 1% part time.
  • Where the work happens: 78% on site, 20% do not say, 1.2% hybrid, 0.8% remote.
  • Field: manufacturing, transport and logistics (15%), sales (13%), marketing (9%), retail (9%), accounting (8%), hospitality (8%). Information technology was 2%.

What they pay

Of the 500 newest postings, 236 showed a monthly salary range. Taking the midpoint of each range:

  • Median: Rp 5.36 million a month.
  • Middle half: Rp 3.86 million to Rp 7.44 million.
  • 42% are below Rp 5 million.
  • By field, accounting and sales pay the most among those with enough postings to compare (about Rp 7 million), and retail the least (about Rp 4.2 million).

More than half of postings hide the salary, so expect to be asked for your expectation. Our guide on answering salary expectations covers how to give a number without underselling yourself.

What this means for your search

  • Apply widely in the big categories. Sales, marketing, admin and customer service have the most openings and the most entry-level ones.
  • Do not wait for remote. Plan around commuting to Jabodetabek, Surabaya, Bandung or Bali.
  • Tailor every CV. With tens of thousands of postings, recruiters screen fast, and a CV that uses the words of the posting gets read.
  • Reach the person, not just the portal. A short email to the recruiter, sent alongside your application, gets noticed when the posting has hundreds of applicants.

How we counted

All figures come from JobStreet Indonesia public job search on 12 October 2026 (08:53 UTC). City and role figures are the number of postings that search returned for that word, so they overlap. The contract, workplace, field and salary figures come from the 500 most recently listed postings, which covers about two hours of a Monday afternoon; a weekly sample would be steadier. The salary figures come from a second read of the newest 500, taken ten minutes after the first. Salaries were read only where a monthly range in rupiah was shown. We will repeat this report every month.
